Accommodation in the inner City of Adelaide includes modern apartments, stunning town houses and beautiful historic cottages, which tends to appeal in particular to singles, professional and retired couples. If it’s the family lifestyle you prefer, then suburban life in Adelaide might be more your style.
Apart from the Inner City, there are four major suburban areas: Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western.
Northern
This area covers the majority of the Adelaide Plains and is the gateway to South Australia’s famed wine region, the Barossa Valley. It contains long established areas such as Prospect, Salisbury and Elizabeth as well as the firmly established family ones of Blakeview and Craigmore and the newly established Playford Waters and Blake’s Crossing. The latter two are new property settlements that have all the trimmings of modern Adelaide life.
Southern
This tends to cover Adelaide’s light industrial areas and the Adelaide Airport leading to coastal suburbs like Christies Beach and Hallet Cove – proving that life in Adelaide can be quite diverse. A little bit further and you’ll happen upon weekend holiday destinations such as Port Noarlunga and Sellicks Beach; not to mention yet another great South Australian wine area – McLaren Vale.
Western
This is basically Adelaide’s inner beach area containing such popular beaches as Glenelg (along with its famous tram), Henley & Grange, Semaphore and Brighton (a lot sunnier than its English counterpart), and all ideal for a relaxed life in Adelaide (perhaps on a glorious beachfront property?).
Eastern
This, along with its North Eastern neighbours, is the area where you will find the more prestigious schools and colleges, cosmopolitan shopping precincts (such as Norwood) and many multi-cultural eating places. It encompasses the more affluent suburbs of Adelaide such as Burnside, Kensington, Mitcham and Belair: and is the gateway to beautiful, picturesque Adelaide Hills townships such as Crafers, Stirling and Aldgate – evidence that Adelaide life can be calm and serene as well as thriving with hustle and bustle.
